CamByte processes faces, which are personal data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. It is designed so that you stay in control of them.
- All video analysis happens on the appliance. Footage and face templates are not uploaded anywhere.
- Face templates are encrypted at rest with a key unique to each unit.
- Consent is recorded per person, and erasure removes someone from recognition immediately.
- Snapshots, events and audit records are deleted automatically on schedules you set.
- Every enrolment, export and correction is written to an audit log.
- We supply notice and consent templates, and refuse covert deployments.

FAQ
Questions we get
Do I have to buy a box?
No. Most customers run CamByte Software on a Windows PC they already have. We install it online in about an hour. Choose the box only if you have no suitable PC or want a sealed unit.
Do I need new cameras?
No. CamByte works with the IP cameras or NVR you already have, as long as they provide an RTSP or ONVIF stream. Placement matters: a camera at head height facing the entrance works far better than one on the ceiling. We check this before a pilot.
Does any footage go to the cloud?
No. Analysis and storage happen on your PC or box, on your premises. The only outbound traffic is the notifications you choose to enable.
Is it legal to use face recognition for attendance?
Faces are personal data under the DPDP Act, 2023. As the organisation using CamByte you must give people notice, have a lawful basis such as consent, and offer an alternative for anyone who opts out. We provide notice and consent templates and the controls to honour erasure requests. Take your own legal advice for your situation.
How accurate is it?
It depends most on camera placement and lighting. CamByte refuses uncertain matches rather than guessing, and records why a face was rejected. During a pilot we measure accuracy on your own cameras before you decide.
Can it send alerts to Telegram or our payroll software?
Yes. Connect a free Telegram bot in Settings and pick which alerts reach which chat. For payroll, HRMS or ERP software, create an API key to pull daily attendance, or add a webhook to receive each check-in and check-out instantly. Both come with every plan.
Do I need to buy anything else for the Box?
No. The power adapter, network cable and recovery stick are in the box, and you do not need a monitor. You only need your existing cameras and a free port on your router, switch or NVR.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Nothing changes on site. Recognition, attendance and the console keep working on your local network.
